After a period of approximately 4 years I purchased Colby Electrical Ltd (a company established in 1888, the oldest electrical engineering company in the UK). In my position as Managing Director I secured many contracts with blue chip companies such as Nestle UK Ltd, Watneys Breweries, Cable and Wireless, The Law Society and a large selection of the London Livery Companies and Ban. In the specialised industries IBM in computing, Badger Engineering and Shell in petrochemicals.

The Company broadened its horizons and developed a building division specialising in internal refurbishment an industrial building related to the installation of industrial process.

The company further diversified into steam pneumatic engineering which naturally progressed into the Dry Cleaning and Textiles Industry, We were the main agent for Frimair (France), Suprema (Italy), Pantex (Holland) and Euromatic (Holland) along with Southern Mills and United Brass (USA) whilst holding the agencies for these companies we assisted in the development of the pneumatic and electrical control systems in addition we opened a number of dry cleaning shops in the UK and Ireland.

However, before I could commence my undergraduate course, I was approached to join AIG in the UK. Thirteen years passed and university never happened. 

AIG in the early 1980’s was growing at a phenomenal rate and opportunities abounded. The culture was that the more that one could manage, the more that was offered. It was not a sink or swim culture, but one that appreciated hard work and rewarded accordingly. I was seconded to work in New York for over two years and held responsibilities for European Reinsurance operations, amongst other roles.

I was headhunted to join Citibank from AIG, where I stayed for five years. By leveraging the Bank’s balance sheet, I focused on asset securitization as well as forming and running UPS’ captive operation in Bermuda. 

After leaving Citibank, there followed time spent with Lloyd’s of London Insurance Brokers and Lloyd’s of London Cover Holders.
